Shout out to my fellow Nurses!!

Being a nurse has its ups and downs, good days and bad and some days....even questioning my career choice. After 25 years in the nursing profession-some days are still exhausting while others exhilarating yet...nursing is in my heart.

Not everyone can be a nurse...

A nurse has certain qualities like compassion, empathy.... a nurse needs to be detail oriented and decisive with a dash of a warped sense of humor that gets us through the day.

We are a special breed. We can go hours without a break (often times-a whole shift), take a beating physically & emotionally, and literally can shoot daggers from our eyes when a co-worker says the Q word. We have hectic schedules, deal with code blues & code browns, loosing favorite patients, work holidays and weekends and contemplate calling in every full moon.

Sometimes we come home and feel on top of the world- because we helped save a life (or at-least not take one) or know we have made a difference in someone-else's world.

Other days we want to crawl in the fetal position and hide from the world. Its like we have NOTHING left-it was all sucked out of us.

So for National Nurses week-let me share with you some of my favorite go-to products that can decrease stress, increase productivity and get us through the day with ease!

Meet my secret weapon...essential oils. Essential oils are in essence natures pure living energy. Essential oils are the life blood of the plant. Anything the oil does for the plant-it can do for us.

Just breathing in an essential oil can impact us in a powerful way-our sense of smell is our most primal instinct-when you inhale through your nose-it passes through your sinuses then through the olfactory bulb into the limbic portion of your brain.

Our limbic system plays a huge role in our emotions, memories, motivation, long term memory and learning.

SO in the morning I start out with valor on my wrists and big breathe in-every nurse needs to have the confidence to handle the expected and unexpected events of the day.

WHEN the shiznit hits the fan and those everyday stressors add up...stress away is my go to girl.

At the end of the day-when I need to regroup-I use my grounding oil to bring me back to center.

As a nurse we also wash our hands a gazillion times a day-our skin is our first line of defense BUT its not a coat of armor-often times the soaps, lotions and even hand sanitizers we use are FILLED with toxins and chemicals that can actually dry out our skin or even make us sick . AINT no nurse has time for that~when I learned that I could reach for an essential oil instead of a chemical -I was HOOKED.

Did you know that antibacterial soaps have the potential to create antibiotic-resistant bacteria?

The reason that the FDA is making manufacturers prove these products' efficacy is because of a range of possible health risks associated with triclosan, and bacterial resistance is first on the list. Read more HERE

I love using the Thieves hand sanitizer-is the bees knees-literally a plant based hand sanitizer without the chemicals and smells AMAZING...THIEVES

Many of us are conscious about what we eat and the nutrients we put into our body-BUT we need to be aware of what we are putting ON our bodies-remember...our largest body organ???
